Arggh, this was hard to do in two hours (so many more bands I wish I could have included), Sweden has the most metal bands per captia of any country in the world and the 80s spawned not only some overlooked heavy metal bands like PROUD, GOTHAM CITY, HIROSHIMA, light years ahead punk hardcore bands like ASOCIAL, MOB 47, MISSBRUKARNA, CRUDE S.S., ANTI-CIMEX, DISARM(as Daniel Ekeroth mentions in his book, Swedish Death Metal, the band ASOCIAL, was probably the 1st band to have the blastbeat, you only need to check out the "How could hardcore be any worse?" released in 1982 for this, which is before D.R.I., REPULSION, NAPALM DEATH), as well as THE absolute pivotal band in Black metal and extreme metal in BATHORY, a worldclass doom metal band in CANDLEMASS, the Guitar God in Yngwie J. Malmsteen, some obscure but very influential thrash metal bands in MEFISTO, OBSCURITY, MERCILESS, and then the Death metal phenomenon that started out towards the latter end of the decade.....SWEDEN we salute you!!
